Discourse of Heteronormativity in the U.S.: A Case of March for Marriage 2014 and 2015

Abstract

This paper explores heteronormative discourse on the issue of same sex marriage (SSM) legalization in the U.S. The aim is to investigate heteronormative ideology in anti-SSM discourse. Data are eight anti-SSM speeches delivered in the March for Marriage event, held in 2014 and 2015 in the U.S. The speeches are collected from the YouTube channel: NationForMarriage. Regarding the study of van Dijk (2004), discourse of discrimination is one kind of ideological manifestation in the form of text, talk, and communication.

Abstract

Businesses' alignment with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is enthusiastically highlighted in practitioner and academic literature. However, based on the existing evidence, it is still debatable whether the adoption of SDGs correlates with firm performance, especially in developing countries. Using Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) manufacturing firms as a case study, we investigate the effects of businesses in developing countries aligning themselves with the SDGs might affect productivity and efficiency.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate a startup accelerator’s decisions toward exerting effort in an information acquisition process and selecting an information disclosure strategy. In particular, the authors are interested in examining which factors may cause the accelerator to report more or less accurate information, which will subsequently affect the investment decision and the outcome of the ventures. This study examines the impact of the equity share taken by the accelerator on the effort level being exerted in the information acquisition process, as well as the accelerator’s decision on the information disclosure regime.

Introduction

The emergence of automated machine learning or AutoML has raised an interesting trend of no-code and low-code machine learning where most tasks in the machine learning pipeline can possibly be automated without support from human data scientists. While it sounds reasonable that we should leave repetitive trial-and-error tasks of designing complex network architectures and tuning a lot of hyperparameters to AutoML, leading research using AutoML is still scarce. Thereby, the overall purpose of this case study is to investigate the gap between current AutoML frameworks and practical machine learning development.

Because location-based augmented reality allows people to enhance virtual information to geographical points of interest at specific predefined geolocations, it can help researchers to create amazing applications and augmented reality games in a different way.

Adaptive cluster path sampling

Abstract

Path sampling is one of the economical sampling designs for spatial populations since it provides the capability of sampling all units along a path traveled during a survey. Path sampling is a non-adaptive sampling design; however it is known that the adaptive sampling design provides more precise estimates of the population mean and total than conventional sampling designs. Therefore, the objective of this article is to propose a new sampling design called “adaptive cluster path sampling” using adaptive sampling strategy and conventional path sampling in order to obtain more precise parameter estimate.

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to adopt the upper echelon theory to analyze the effect of chief executive officer (CEO) transformational leadership on organizational ethical culture and its subsequent impact on firm performance. The study also integrates the knowledge from the structure–conduct–performance paradigm to test whether the high degree of competitive intensity that firms experience could weaken the effect of organizational ethical culture on firm performance.

Abstract

This research examines the effect of salespeople's functional flexibility on sales performance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Grounded in the contingency approach to management and the person-environment fit theory, we analyze whether the flexibility of the management team with which salespeople work moderates the effect of their functional flexibility on sales performance. The study collected data from a sample of 227 salespeople in 120 sales organizations in Bangkok, Thailand.

Abstract

Computational journalism, especially social media analysis, is a very popular field in computational science. This study was conducted to explore and analyze the impact of the intensity of the exposure to social media on young Thai adults' body images and attitudes toward plastic surgery. The purposive sampling method was used for choosing 250 young Thai men and women aged 21 to 40 who used Facebook and/or Instagram on a regular basis.
