Materializing gay identity An analysis of gay-sounding speech in Thai

Abstract

This paper explores what factors contribute to distinguishing gay sounding and straight man sounding speech; linguistic cognate or social knowledge and whether the gender of listeners also determines ability in identification. To answer these questions, 286 participants were classified by nationality into 3 groups of participants: Thai listeners as a control group, Zhuang, and Other listeners.

Marketing the (idealized) male body? Communication strategies of Thai cosmetic hospitals

Abstract

This study investigates the communication strategies which Thai cosmetic hospitals pursue to market their services to international male clients. The investigation is predicated upon Taylor’s six-segment message strategy model. Methodologically, corpus-assisted discourse analysis is employed, by qualitatively examining texts containing statistically significant keywords.

Media Pornofication of Male Bodies in Thai Boys Love TV Serice

ABSTRACT

Following Michel Foucault’s critical thoughts on power relations and the neoliberal discourse of masculine body embodiment, this paper examines the representation of male adolescent bodies in “boy love/Yaoi” television series in Thailand. The paper investigates the commodification of masculine bodies and the conception of otherness in the Thai society. It offers an analytical description of the narrative structure and the reproduction of young male characters’ half-naked bodily images in the Thai television series about male same-sex love, Make It Right the Series (2016).

Media Valorization of Feminine Beauty in Thai Public Discourse

ABSTRACT

Contemporary society is often thought of being media-saturated as the mass media have increasingly become an integral part of modern ways of life. The media reinforce gender norms already being communicated by other social institutions through their representation or reconstruction of social reality. Despite legal and social recognition of gender equality, the media representation of both genders still reproduces stereotypical portrayals underlining biological and emotional differences between men and women.

Visualizing reactive oxygen species inside cancer cells after stimulation with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon via spontaneous formation of Au nanoclusters

Samlee Mankhetkorn

Abstract

This research was designed to visualize cellular response – in particular the generation of intracellular ROS – to stimulation by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH). We used chloroauric acid (HAuCl4) as a molecular probe for visualizing intracellular ROS generated by the stimulation of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP). The chloroauric acid undergoes a spontaneous reduction reaction, assisted by the intracellular ROS, into gold nanoclusters (AuNCs).

Variables that influence stakeholder satisfaction with the creation of corporate images of Thailand’s National Housing Authority

Abstract

The project output will assist with the strategic planning and determination of communication tactics, coupled with public relations, to establish a good corporate image under fluctuating global circumstances. Questionnaires and non-experimental, in-depth interviews were used for both quantitative and qualitative research, respectively. The main objective of this study is to explore stakeholder attitudes and satisfaction with the creation of corporate images by Thailand’s National Housing Authority (NHA).

Risk assessment of the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in coastal areas of Thailand affected by the 2004 tsunami

D. Tipmanee, W. Deelaman, J. Muprasit, P. Feldens, K. Schwarzer

Abstract

The total concentrations of twelve, likely carcinogenic, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) (i.e.,phenanthrene (Phe), anthracene (An), fluoranthene (Fluo), pyrene (Pyr), benz[a]anthracene (B[a]A), chrysene (Chry), benzo[b]fluoranthene (B[b]F), benzo[k]fluoranthene (B[k]F), benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P), indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene (Ind), dibenz[a,h]anthracene (D[a,h]A), and benzo[g,h,i]perylene (B[g,h]P) in backwash deposits of the 2004 Khao Lak tsunami were carefully investigated and compared with the concentrations of world marine sediments (WMS).

Relationship Between COVID‑19‑Infected Number and PM2.5 Level in Ambient Air of Bangkok, Thailand

Thaneeya Chetiyanukornkul · Wirat  Manassanitwong

Abstract

Several empirical studies of reductions in air pollutants as social distancing and working from home (WFH) policies have sparked recommendations that the COVID-19 pandemic might have been responsible for better air quality particularly in urban area. These findings offer a compelling provocation for the scientific community to detect and investigate variations to air quality as a consequence of government enforced quarantine.

Quantitative ecological risk assessment of inhabitants exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in terrestrial soils of King George Island, Antarctica

TM. Hattayanone, O. Pinyakong, V. Viyakarn, S.A. Chavanich, C. Bo, C. Khumsup, I. Kittikoon, P. Hirunyatrakul

Abstract

This study aims to conduct a quantitative ecological risk assessment of human exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in terrestrial soils of King George Island, Antarctica. Generally, the average PAH concentrations detected in King George Terrestrial Soils (KGS) were appreciably lower than those of World Marine Sediments (WMS) and World Terrestrial Soils (WTS), highlighting the fact that Antarctica is one of the most pristine continents in the world.
